Product Description
The MAX31856 performs cold-junction compensation and digitizes the signal from any type of thermocouple. Output data is formatted in degrees Celsius. The converter can resolve temperatures to 0.0078125°C, allowing readings up to +1800°C and down to -210°C (depending on the thermocouple type), and offers ±0.15% thermocouple voltage measurement accuracy. Thermocouple inputs are overvoltage protected up to ±45V. A lookup table (LUT) stores linearity correction data for several thermocouple types (K, J, N, R, S, T, E, and B). 50Hz and 60Hz line frequency filtering are included, as well as thermocouple fault detection. An SPI-compatible interface allows selection of the thermocouple type and configuration of the conversion and fault detection processes. |
Benefits and Features: Provides high-accuracy thermocouple temperature readings. Includes automatic linearity correction for eight thermocouple types. ±0.15% (maximum, -20°C to +85°C) thermocouple full-scale and linearity error. 19-bit 0.0078125°C thermocouple temperature resolution. Internal cold-junction compensation minimizes system component count. ±0.7°C (maximum, -20°C to +85°C) cold-junction accuracy. ±45V input protection provides stable system performance. Simplifies system fault management and troubleshooting. Detects open thermocouples. Overtemperature and undertemperature fault detection. 50Hz/60Hz noise rejection filtering improves system performance. |
