Intel Announces Termination of Direct Investment in NUC Business

Recently, Intel has sent an email confirming that it will not make further investments in the NUC business unit. This department is responsible for developing a variety of products, including mini PCs, notebook reference systems, etc., which were subsequently confirmed by Intel in the subsequent official statement.


Intel stated in a statement that we have decided to cease direct investment in the Next Unit of Compute (NUC) business and adjust our strategy to enable our ecosystem partners to continue NUC's innovation and growth. This decision will not affect the rest of Intel's client computing business (CCG) or network and edge computing business (NEX). In addition, we are working with our partners and clients to ensure a smooth transition and fulfill all of our current commitments.

Although Intel did not explain why it had abandoned the NUC hardware business, many in the industry analyzed it as CEO Pat Gelsinger's decision to shrink his business and control costs, such as his previous NAND Flash, Optane Aoteng, drones, mining chips, and other businesses.


It is reported that Intel's NUC business (Next Unit of Compute) began in 2012, controlling its volume at x4 × 2 inches (101.6 × one hundred and one point six × A small box with a size of 50.8mm provides a powerful and complete system, making it the preferred choice for small office and entertainment devices. Later, it has been expanded into different forms, including a 13 liter small machine and laptop reference design.


It is worth noting that Intel once launched a Compute Stick, which is similar in size to a USB drive, and users only need to plug it into the HDMI interface of a TV or monitor to use it. However, the product was later abandoned.


Intel's NUC product is a typical quasi system, meaning it is not equipped with components such as memory and storage. Users can customize their PC by adding their favorite components to meet specific needs. The current NUC 13 series can be based on the 13th generation Core platform, including NUC 13 Bravo Canyon, NUC 13 Pro Arena Canyon, and NUC 13 Extreme Raptor Canyon.
