Onsemi, an intelligent power supply and intelligent perception technology company, and BorgWarner, an innovative and sustainable mobile travel solution provider, have expanded their strategic cooperation in silicon carbide (SiC), with a total agreement value of more than $1 billion.
BorgWarner plans to integrate Onsemi's EliteSiC 1200 V and 750 V power devices into its VIPER power module. For a long time, both sides have conducted strategic cooperation in a wide range of product areas, including EliteSiC devices.
Onsemi said that the company provides high-performance EliteSiC technology, while maintaining the high standard quality, high reliability and supply stability required by the main drive market of electric vehicles. BorgWarner's adoption of EliteSiC technology in its solution will benefit from higher power density and energy efficiency, thus increasing the range of electric vehicles and improving the overall performance.

Stefan Demmerle, Vice President of BorgWarner, President and General Manager of Power Drive System, said: "First of all, Onsemi will continue to make strategic investment to accelerate the improvement of SiC capacity in its entire end-to-end supply chain, so we are confident that we can meet the growing demand for our solutions in the current and future markets."
Compared with other similar schemes, BorgWarner's silicon carbide main drive inverter has higher energy efficiency, better cooling performance, faster charging speed and more compact package. BorgWarner's adoption of EliteSiC technology in its solution will benefit from higher power density and energy efficiency, thus increasing the range of electric vehicles and improving the overall performance.
Simon Keeton, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Onsemi Power Solutions Business Group, said, "Integrating EliteSiC technology in the main drive inverter can increase the equivalent mileage per gallon of gasoline (MPGe) , which helps to alleviate the anxiety of Range anxiety, which is also one of the main obstacles to the popularity of electric vehicles. With support from the chip to the system level, as well as a good track record of implementation, we can accelerate the provision of industry-leading SiC based solutions to BorgWarner to meet its listing needs.
