In the global electricity consumption, lighting electricity accounts for a large proportion, so energy conservation in the lighting field is crucial. It has been proven that the PFC+LCC resonant topology is an excellent solution for LED lighting applications such as commercial lighting, outdoor lighting, and plant lighting:
Support constant current/constant voltage/constant power design
Achieve the same efficiency as PFC+LLC
Supports a wide output voltage range
In order to facilitate the design of engineers, Infineon has launched the LCC design tool, making the design work of engineers faster and easier.
Hakan Yilmazer, global lighting application market director of Infineon Technologies, said: Our new LCC design tool provides designers with a streamlined solution that can help them avoid tedious iterative design methods and design efficient and reliable PFC+LCC solutions in a more time-saving and labor-saving manner. Assuming we convert 300 million LED drives with an average power of 60 W from a less efficient flyback topology to a PFC+LCC topology, the annual energy savings are equivalent to 1000 MW for a company Power generation of large Coal-fired power station. Now, with the support of Infineon LCC design tools, we can make this assumption a reality
Among the PFC and resonant topologies, the PFC+LCC topology is the most popular because it can achieve a wide output voltage range and an efficiency of up to 94%. Most LED driver manufacturers typically use resonant topology structures in the power range of over 100 W, which can achieve maximum benefits. However, this topology structure is not only suitable for high-power LED drivers, but can also be deployed in applications with power as low as 40 W, thereby replacing the Flyback+DC-DC buck topology structure. Designers can use Infineon's LCC design tool to design circuits - by simply inputting key parameters, they can obtain the required data from the tool, saving more than half of the design time and effort compared to before.
In addition, for this topology structure, Infineon also provides two highly suitable high-performance and highly integrated combination controllers - PFC+LCC/LLC integrated controllers ICL5102 and ICL5102HV. The LCC/LLC level of these ICs can operate continuously at frequencies up to 500 kHz, which will help reduce BOM (Bill of Materials) costs, especially the reduction of passive components, and significantly improve product power density, achieving miniaturization design. Infineon CoolMOS ™ The switching losses of the 600 V P7 and 950 V PFD7 series are low, and CoolGaNTM is highly suitable for use in such high-frequency designs. Lighting equipment customers using these products can increase the efficiency of LED drives by 5-6%, while the additional cost can be negligible or even non-existent.
