According to reports, SK Key Foundry, a contract manufacturing subsidiary of SK Hynix, plans to produce power management chips (PMICs) installed on Tesla electric vehicles as early as July at the 8-inch wafer factory in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk do.
According to industry insiders, SK Qifang Semiconductor plans to start producing power management chips at its 8-inch wafer factory in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk do in July, and install these chips on Tesla electric vehicles.
In addition, SK Qifang Semiconductor is also collaborating with multiple global automotive companies in the field of automotive power semiconductors, and has recently passed production quality audits by leading global automotive component companies such as Bosch and Continental.
"SK Qifang Semiconductor needs more funds for research and equipment investment to ensure competitiveness, which is an objective reality," said a semiconductor industry insider. He also added, "As we acquire proprietary technology, the speed of performance improvement will accelerate" in the electronic semiconductor industry. "
SK Hynix announced in October 2021 that it would acquire Key Foundry for KRW 576 billion and completed the acquisition in August 2022, subsequently renaming it SK Qifang Semiconductor.
According to data, Key Foundry became independent from MagnaChip in September 2020 and mainly engages in OEM production of power management ICs (PMICs), panel driver chips (DDIs), microcontrollers (MCUs), and more.
